Develop singing success before and after A Quality Plan With These Self Help Tips

The key to personal development is simply willpower. When you decide to better yourself in some way, make sure you establish why you want to improve. Personal development can involve quite a bit of effort, so if you can always remind yourself why you want to continue to develop, you will be able to keep pushing yourself.

Regardless of where you may find yourself on your quest of transforming into the person you strive to be in terms of your attitudes, behaviors, goals and emotions, remember that you need to continually step outside of your comfort zone. By stepping out of your comfort zone, you are growing as a person and taking risks which will ultimately bring about new experiences important to your success.

A great personal development tip is to always have integrity. If you want people to follow and trust you, you must be a person with good core values. If you do something to ruin your integrity, you will lose your following. Therefore, you should aim to preserve your integrity in any way possible.

Being too hard on yourself is a sure fire way of going through life the hard way. We are all human, and just as overcorrecting a child will cause them to withdraw or focus on the fear of failure, being hard on yourself will discourage you! You need to encourage yourself in as many ways as possible to keep you on a positive and productive path.

To be successful don?t procrastinate. Procrastination results in missed opportunities, if you complete the task today than you can move on to the next task singorama real user review right away. This approach actually reduces stress, since you do not have to rush around at the last minute to get all your projects done.

Act on your wisdom and live through your actions. It is only worth so much to gain knowledge and understanding. How you act on that wisdom defines you. Others cannot see inside to know your level of understanding, yet they can see your actions and how they benefit society, individuals or the world as a whole.

Effective personal development starts with making a conscious decision to change one or more areas of your life. Pick an area of your life where you have a problem that needs to be solved and make a plan that will result in a lasting change, not just a quick fix.

If you have worked very hard on improving yourself in your career but you have neglected your family or your social life then you may want to take some time out to focus on those things. It is important to be a well balanced person in as many areas as possible.

Keep chugging along. We?ve all heard of the little train that thought it could and of the tortoise that beat the hare in the race. Constantly working towards achieving a goal will eventually get us there. We just have to keep chugging or perhaps even crawling along and we will ultimately, reach our destination.

The importance of positive thinking and self-esteem cannot be overestimated. As you pursue your life goals and try to improve yourself, you cannot allow yourself to be defeated by past guilt or false, self-destructive beliefs. Replace thoughts of yourself as ?a failure? or ?a loser,? with positive beliefs like how to become a singer ?I am on the right track,? and ?I will succeed this time.?

Enunciate your words! Don?t be one of those people that stand on the edge of a group talking for what seems like hours and no one even realizes you are there! Choose your words carefully and speak clearly, so that everyone can understand. You can?t be appreciated unless you are heard and understood!

A great personal development tip is to know as much as you can about physics. Understanding physics is crucial to understanding earthly matters because you can?t understand these matters without knowing a little about heavenly matters. Knowing about physics in the present will help you learn beyond them in the afterlife.

Be sure to track your progress at very regular intervals. For many health and fitness goals there are applications for smart phones, which can help you. For other developments, you can create your own tracker with a simple spreadsheet or chart. This will help you to see how far you?ve come and also help you to maintain your momentum.

Self awareness and self control are a part of personal development. Knowing who you are, being confident in your perception of the world around you and controlling your emotions will allow your true self to prosper. Always stand up for what you believe in, but try and do so without infringing on others beliefs.

As established, there are a number of necessary elements to successful self-improvement. It can be hard at times. Sometimes, you may forget why you even care, but if you make sure you firmly establish in your own mind why it is that you want to better yourself, you will succeed.

(AP) ? The baseball jersey worn by New York Yankees legend Don Larsen when he pitched the only perfect game in World Series history will soon be available for auction.

Steiner Sports Memorabilia is conducting the auction in the fall. They say a bidding war is expected for the one-of-a-kind jersey. In May, a jersey worn by Babe Ruth sold for more than $4.4 million.

Larsen pitched the perfect game during Game 5 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium on October 8, 1956. The Bronx Bombers defeated the Brooklyn Dodgers 2-0 in the game and went on to win the series in seven.

Larsen, now 82, says the game is the best thing that ever happened to him.

Steiner will announce the auction at a press conference Thursday.

Barclays paying $453 million to settle Libor probe

WASHINGTON/LONDON (Reuters) - U.K. bank Barclays will pay $453 million to U.S. and British authorities to settle allegations that it manipulated key interbank lending rates known as Libor, ramping up pressure on other banks to cooperate in a probe that could cost the financial industry billions of dollars.

Barclays admitted to trying to make Libor look artificially low, to avoid signaling the bank's distress to markets during the financial crisis. The bank also tried to manipulate borrowing rates to benefit its trading positions.

Barclays Chief Executive Bob Diamond acknowledged on Wednesday that the news would damage customer trust in the bank, and said he and other senior executives would forgo a bonus this year.

Libor underpins trillions of dollars in derivative contracts and is a crucial peg for corporate and personal borrowing rates worldwide, linked to everything from U.S. consumer credit cards to loans funding Turkish phone networks. The manipulation, from 2005 through 2009, meant that millions of borrowers globally paid too little or too much interest on their debt.

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the U.S. Department of Justice and the UK's Financial Services Authority settled with Barclays on a civil basis, while Canadian authorities said they still had an open investigation.

The Justice Department also said it still had a criminal investigation in progress, having found that bankers across the industry worked together to manipulate Libor. In some cases the pressure to manipulate rates came from Barclays management, the Justice Department said.

Market participants said the settlement in many ways confirmed what traders already knew.

"It is an admission that they were manipulating the rates to get better conditions," said ING strategist Alessandro Giansanti. "There isn't really a lot of trust in the way Libor is calculated as ... there were some banks who used to manipulate the rates just to get better conditions in the money market."

Libor, which stands for London interbank offered rate, is set through a daily survey of banks regarding their estimated borrowing costs.

An economist who has previously studied Libor manipulation said that banks should instead be surveyed about their actual borrowing costs.

"Estimates are much easier to manipulate," said Rosa Abrantes-Metz, a principal at Global Economics Group and an adjunct professor at NYU's Stern School of Business.

Investigators were helped by the extensive email traffic among Barclays employees involved in trying to manipulate Libor. In one email, after a Barclays swaps trader asked for low levels to be reported on certain short-term Libor rates, an employee who submitted rates for the survey responded by email, "Done ... for you big boy...."

LONG-RUNNING PROBE

Yet Barclays shares closed 1.9 percent higher in London, as shareholders said they were satisfied the issue was closed.

"They've paid a fine, move on," said one top-30 shareholder of the bank based in Britain. "From when it was discovered they acted to get to the bottom of it. They cooperated."

Barclays, in a statement, said the settlement related to past actions that fell "well short of the standards" the bank sought to uphold for its business.

"I am sorry that some people acted in a manner not consistent with our culture and values," Diamond said.

Barclays regularly reported borrowing rates lower than the rates it was actually paying during the financial crisis in order to mask its distress, according to a statement from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Damning emails that regulators released on Wednesday make clear that traders and the "submitters" tasked with reporting daily rates worked together for years to make the rates submitted suit the traders' and the bank's purposes.

In some cases, submitters set themselves reminders on their calendars to submit low rates on certain dates, according to the emails. In others, traders expressed overwhelming gratitude for low submissions that protected them from losses.

In one communication released by the CFTC, a Barclays employee concedes that borrowing costs are actually higher than what the Libor rates show. The "true cost of money is anything from 5 to 15 basis points higher," the employee said. A basis point is equal to 0.01 percentage point.

RECORD FINES

The CFTC ordered the bank to pay a $200 million penalty, saying it was the largest civil monetary penalty it has ever imposed.

Barclays also settled with the U.S. Department of Justice and Britain's Financial Services Authority and will pay fines of $160 million and $92.8 million, respectively. The FSA fine was also a record.

The Department of Justice said Barclays was the first bank being probed "to provide extensive and meaningful cooperation to the government," adding that the bank's assistance had aided its criminal investigation.

Though the Justice Department did not use words like "conspiracy" or "fraud" in its statement of facts, one attorney not related to the case said that was likely a courtesy to Barclays as much as anything else.

"The DOJ did not want to back Barclays into a corner (by) using some of the more terrifying words from the criminal lexicon. I think it was very much a way to give Barclays a face-saving opportunity to resolve the situation," said Anthony Sabino, a professor of law at St. John's University.

Had it gone to court "I think you would have seen the harder terms out of the statute utilized in a criminal complaint."

OTHER PROBES

The basis of Libor is a daily poll that asks banks including Barclays to enumerate the rates they think they will be able to borrow from other big banks. Libor is set daily for 10 major currencies and for 15 borrowing periods, ranging from overnight loans to 12 months.

Thomson Reuters Corp is the British Bankers' Association's official agent for the daily calculation and publishing of the Libor rates. The company, in a statement, said it continues to support the BBA in calculating and distributing Libor rates.

The BBA, for its part, said the news would figure into its ongoing review of the structure of Libor.

"This is an announcement with extremely serious implications which need to be carefully considered and the investigation findings will be fully included in the current review of Libor," the association said.

As well as the FSA and CFTC, other authorities probing Libor manipulation include the European Commission and Japan's Financial Services Authority, as well as the Canadian Competition Bureau.

Other banks involved in the probe include Citigroup, HSBC, Royal Bank of Scotland and UBS.

Several banks have suspended traders over the investigations. No criminal charges have been filed.

As the credit crisis took hold in 2008, allegations started mounting that Libor no longer reflected banks' real borrowing costs, and authorities began examining whether traders tried to influence whether the rate went up or down to profit on bets on its future direction.

The CFTC's findings, including the internal emails, will likely play a significant role in litigation being brought against global banks by trading firms, pension funds, and others who allege that the banks manipulated Libor to profit.

The first major lawsuit against the banks was filed in April 2011 by Vienna hedge fund FTC Capital GmbH. The fund claimed that the improper Libor postings impacted Eurodollar futures. Those futures enable trading firms to wager on the direction of interest rates and are priced based on Libor.

Eurodollar interest-rate swaps trading features prominently in the CFTC order. The agency alleged that Barclays traders sought to manipulate Libor to benefit trading European derivatives trading positions.

Wildfires threaten family road-trip season

MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) ? Brutal wildfires across the West have placed some tourist destinations from Montana to New Mexico in danger just at the height of midsummer family road-trip season, putting cherished Western landscapes at risk along with hordes of vacationers.

In Colorado, the $5 billion tourism industry is on edge as images of smoke-choked Pikes Peak and flaming vacation cabins near Rocky Mountain National Park threaten to scare away summer tourists.

In central Utah, a wildfire in an area dotted with vacation cabins was burning an estimated 58 square miles and threatening about 300 homes. Firefighters had that blaze at 10 percent containment Monday. The Sanpete County Sheriff's office said that as many as 30 structures may have been lost.

And in New Mexico, firefighters Monday were mopping up a small wildfire that threatened one of that state's top tourist attractions, El Santuario de Chimayo, a 19th century church north of Santa Fe. The church draws some 300,000 visitors a year and appeared to be out of danger Monday.

Firefighters hoped calmer winds Monday and additional firefighting air tankers would assist wildfires across the drought-stricken region.

With the nation's privately owned fleet of heavy air tankers already in use or unavailable, U.S. Forest Chief Tom Tidwell said his agency had to call on C-130 military tankers to help. The order came as new fires started in Colorado, Utah, Alaska and Arkansas. In all, more than 1.3 million acres across the U.S. have been charred this year.

Tidwell told The Associated Press in a phone interview Monday that about half of the nation's personnel who are usually assigned to large fires are working in Colorado right now.

"It's just because it's so dry," Tidwell said. "Not unlike New Mexico ? they saw very low snowpack, especially in that lower country. Hot, dry winds with dry fuels, you get the ignition, and this is what we see."

Even as some evacuated residents in Colorado were allowed to return home, tourists streamed out of some of Colorado's most popular summer sights.

"They don't want to come back where it is smoky and uncomfortable, so they move on," said Chris Champlin, operator of the Pikes Peak RV Park, which is usually packed ahead of the July 4 holiday.

The fire that emptied Champlin's RV park burned out of control at more than 5 square miles Monday, with smoke at times obscuring Pikes Peak.

In Manitou Springs, a tourist town at the base of Pikes Peak, the Blue Skies Inn was back open for business Monday, a day after guests were roused and told to evacuate. But manager Mike Dutcher worried that officials pleading for firefighting help could spook visitors.

"Tourism is a big business in Colorado, and if you hyperventilate when CNN shows up, it hurts a lot of people," Dutcher said.

One of those people is Tresa Gray, an evacuated resident who also manages a vacation cabin. She's waiting out the fire in an evacuation center and said she's already lost a booking for the week of July 4, typically her easiest time renting the cabin.

"You don't want to come up here and run in fear, especially if you don't live here," she said. "It's caused us to lose some business. If we don't get some rain, I expect to lose all of July and August."

The head of the state's tourism office said it's too soon to know how the fires will affect the number of summer tourists. But Al White, director of the Colorado Tourism Office, insisted, "The active fires represent a very, very small piece of Colorado."

Colorado is having its worst fire season since the drought-stricken year of 2002. In June of that year, wildfires charring tens of thousands of acres near the resort towns of Glenwood Springs and Durango and in Pike National Forest near Denver prompted then-Gov. Bill Owens to proclaim that it looked as if "all of Colorado is burning today."

Tourism and hotel officials reacted furiously. Dutcher remembered the moment well.

"The phones didn't ring for three days during the height of the season, and when they started ringing again, it was cancellations," he said

The firefighters near Pikes Peak were assisted Monday by U.S. military C-130 tankers capable of dropping 3,000 gallons of fire-fighting retardant.

In northern Colorado, authorities announced that the High Park Fire had destroyed 248 homes, up from 191. That fire has killed one woman and scorched more than 130 square miles and was just 45 percent contained Monday.

Elsewhere across the West:

? An Alaska wildfire between Mount McKinley and town of Anderson grew to more than 30 square miles Monday. No homes were threatened.

? Despite dry, hot conditions, firefighters battling a fire that consumed nearly 70 square miles west of Ruidoso, N.M., was 90 percent contained, with many residents allowed to return home.

? A wildfire in Tonto National Forest near Young, Ariz., was 65 percent contained Monday as winds slowed to about 3 mph.

? Authorities in southwestern Montana ordered residential evacuations in a small community threatened by one of two wildfires. The blazes were burning in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest.

Whatever Happened to Google?s Android@Home?

android_HOMEWith just a few days to go before Google's annual I/O developer conference kicks off on Wednesday, it's time to take a look back at last year's event. Besides announcing Ice Cream Sandwich, Google Music and a number of other new projects, one announcement that stood out from the slew of releases last year was Android@Home, Google's entry into the home automation market. Google, at the time, said that it wanted to create a service that would turn your entire home into a network of Android accessories, with Android as "the operating system for your home." Since then, though, neither Google nor its partners have said anything about this initiative.

Scientific analysis finds gender difference is not related to the eye's focusing power

Rockville, Md. Studies have consistently reported that women require reading glasses or bifocal lenses earlier than men. According to a recent Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science paper, the gender difference is caused by factors other than focusing ability, such as arm length or preferred reading distance, which should be considered when prescribing readers or bifocals.

The new evidence was found by a team of researchers who performed a meta-analysis using nine cross-sectional studies to compare the prevalence and magnitude of presbyopia commonly described as the loss of near vision that occurs with age among men and women. The researchers further subdivided the analysis to determine what differences in presbyopia might exist between men and women.

While the results of a subgroup of studies showed that there was no significant gender-related difference in the eye's ability to focus clearly on objects at near distances, the overall analysis provided evidence that women have a need for higher power reading glasses or bifocals than men of an equivalent age. According to the researchers, this discrepancy is likely due to differences in preferred reading distances or arm length as women tend to hold reading materials closer than men do.

"These findings could impact global vision care in multiple ways," said Hickenbotham. "The findings reinforce the need for presbyopia correction programs for women a group that often has greater unmet vision needs in developing countries. It also points out that presbyopia is a multi-factorial problem and requires solutions that are tailored to each individual."

While the researchers urge clinicians to do more than measure the eye's ability to focus when diagnosing presbyopia, they also suggest more carefully performed studies be conducted that better isolate and measure the various factors that contribute to its development. In particular, the paper states longitudinal studies that consider the interaction between the preferred reading distance and the change in accommodative amplitude across time for males and females could help determine to what extent biological factors or environmental factors plays a role in the loss of focusing ability with increasing age.

In particular, the paper states longitudinal studies that consider the interaction between the preferred reading distance and the change in accommodative amplitude across time for males and females could help determine to what extent biological factors or environmental factors plays a role in the loss of focusing ability with increasing age.

(AP) ? As the Miami Heat's lead skyrocketed Thursday night from 5 just after halftime to an insurmountable 24 by the end of the third quarter, their fans outside the AmericanAirlines Arena decided it was time to celebrate the team's second NBA championship in six years.

The thousands gathered in bars, restaurants and a park near the arena screamed in joy late Thursday as the Heat dropped one 3-pointer after another. Fans used the fourth quarter to get an early start on their party as they watched their team coast to a 121-106 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Heat won the series in five games.

The promise made to South Florida fans 23 months earlier when LeBron James and Chris Bosh added their talents to Dwyane Wade's had arrived.

"We're bringing the championship home to Miami. LeBron promised us a ring and he got us our ring," said Ivine Mulkey, 32.

Orlando Hernandez, 33, noted it had been a team effort, with major Game 5 contributions coming from supporting players Mike Miller, Mario Chalmers and Shane Battier.

"This is the best game they've ever had ? the best final. It's unbelievable how they stepped up. It's not just one person. It's everybody," Hernandez said.

As the game ended, the fans from the neighborhood bars pushed happily toward the arena, meeting those leaving the game to jump, whoop and holler. They banged pots and pans and blew whistles. Championship shirts were sold, and special editions of The Miami Herald were handed out. Traffic on Biscayne Boulevard outside the arena was gridlocked.

The only negativity came when the Thunder's team bus left the arena ? some fans sprayed it with liquid and made obscene gestures toward the players as it crawled away. Still, Miami police reported no serious problems after the game.

James, the regular season and Finals MVP, may be hated in Cleveland and elsewhere for leaving his native state's Cavaliers, but his adopted hometown showered him with love after the game. Fans waved posters of their hero and defended him against critics, who branded him a choker who would never win a championship.

"Silence the haters ? LeBron did it," said Matthew Gonzalez, 21.

Fans were already making plans for next season. After all, James promised not just one championship. Or just two, three, four, five, six or seven.

"We're going to win next year too. This is just the beginning," fan Samantha Stevens said.

'Dumb And Dumber To' Won't Happen Without Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels Says

'Nobody's doing it without Jim,' Daniels tells MTV News after Carrey's reps announced he left the proposed sequel.
By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Kara Warner

Jim Carrey's reps confirmed on Wednesday that he has left the proposed "Dumb and Dumber" sequel, the cleverly titled "Dumb and Dumber To," due to a conflict with the studios, New Line and Warner Bros.

Later that day, MTV News spokes with Carrey's co-star from the original, Jeff Daniels, as he walked the red carpet for his upcoming HBO series, Aaron Sorkin's "The Newsroom."

Daniels' answer was succinct and confirmed what many feared would be the implication of Carrey's departure. "No, nobody's doing it without Jim," he said.

As "Entertainment Tonight" had previously reported, Carrey exited the sequel to the Farrelly Brothers' follow-up to the 1994 comedy because New Line and Warner Bros. did not care enough about the project.

"According to sources, Carrey grew increasingly frustrated by New Line and Warner Brothers, who he felt showed a lack of enthusiasm regarding the project," "ET" claimed.

When the entertainment show reached out to Carrey's representation, they confirmed the departure and delivered a statement from the actor himself. "I would have thought 'Dumb and Dumber To' was a no-brainer," he said. "After all, it's implied in the title."

Daniels' insistence that a sequel would not happen without Carrey's involvement should not come as a surprise. The main draw of "Dumb and Dumber To" was that it would reunite the stars of the beloved movie for the first time.

"Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd," a prequel to the original that featured none of the original's key players, bombed at the box office in 2003.

Do you think a "Dumb and Dumber" sequel can go on without Jim Carrey? Leave your comment below!

MS teases Windows Phone 8 enterprise features: encryption, secure boot, IT management

MS details Windows Phone 8 enterprise features encryption, secure boot, IT management

At today's Windows Phone Summit, Microsoft alluded to some of the next-gen OS' enterprise features, including a trusted shared Windows core, encryption, secure boot and IT device management. Company VP Joe Belfiore recognized that some business users haven't been satisfied with the operating system's previous suite of enterprise features, and that definitely appears to be one focus of Windows Phone 8. BitLocker Drive Encryption will provide support for device security, while IT administrators will have have the ability to push apps to handsets while sidestepping the Marketplace. Office will also have a greater presence in Windows Phone 8, though we don't know exactly how that will play out just yet. Enterprise clearly hasn't been a primary target of Microsoft's mobile OS to date, but that could very well change beginning this fall.

Do you know who Alex Steinweiss and Album Cover Art ?

In 23, and the "godfather" of the album cover, Alex Steinweiss accepted a job to design the promotional material for Columbia Records. What is going to revolutionize the music industry, vinyl records specifically, when he invented the album cover photographer. There was a clear idea to some extent, but it was a great excitement to create a package graphics that will not only protect the record, but the publicity for the artist and the music contained in it (before it sold records in the packaging clearly does not print).

?

"Documents were being relegated to the back of the shops that sell refrigerators and stoves. We had to go to the counter and ask the way he wants," he said, Steinweiss. "I need to shake up the industry, to do something like the art of the label European to draw attention the buyer.

"

?

Sales of the album, and "shake up the industry," is exactly what Steinweiss. From its cover in 1939 with the first group of watches musical by Rodgers and Hart, and the leaders of Colombia has seen his share and is one of more than 800 percent. Shortly after the albums decorate the course in 78 minutes with blankets decorated and displayed in shop windows.

?

I was born this new medium, and the album became the norm and attracted established artists and inspired by new artists who enter the arena. Enabled it to record company to promote the artist and the visual image and identity with the music.

?

That was Alex Steinweiss? We will discuss in detail his life.

Steinweiss grew up in Brighton Beach area of ??Brooklyn, and attended the School Abraham Lincoln High in 1930-1934 and that's where he began his professional graphic design. In a program taught by Leon Friend, Steinweiss and his colleagues, known as "Team Art", published by School of Design, posters, banners, and when he was seven, the Steinweiss work in the magazine PM. Won a scholarship to Parsons School of Art and graduated in 1937. His first job was assistant to Joseph Binder, a position which lasted nearly three years before receiving a call about 'a new job in the records of the newly formed Columbia. He designed to cover all of Colombia between 1939 and 1945, a period that has developed and perfected the art of graphic design the cover of the album. In the period between 1945 and about 1950, he still does not cover the design of Colombia, but it was not designed only. Also began "freelancing" and began designing covers for other record labels.

?

With an independent designer labels such as RCA, Decca, London, and Mount Everest, and considered the Steinweiss outstanding. With a unique blend illustrations attractive, and patterns of color and printing playful, created Steinweiss covers album musical greats such as Louis Armstrong, Bartok Bela, Count Basie, Leonard Bernstein, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Kate Smith and many others.

?

The album covers the famous, and he designed them as miniature posters with a distinct personality for each cover. Line signature, and "scribbles Steinweiss", first appeared in 1947 and about style and design the album cover is synomonous with the golden age of jazz, classical, popular and dominated music by RCA, Columbia, Decca, and scored Victor of companies in London.

?

In the 1950s, and added Steinweiss imaging plate has a design of the album. Used to strange colors, techniques, and furnishings, and lighting in accordance with the invention and many visual puns and reference points, only adds to his unique style of cover design, and make it an icon in the music industry. His own admission, Steinweiss claims that he has designed album covers of more than 2500.

?

Done at a later time, from 1960 to about 1973, has been working with Decca record companies in London. It was during this period that he developed graphics cut and collages. Retired in Sarasota, Florida circa 1974, and remains semi-active, having designed at least one cover of a book and CD covers several, as well as they are designed liquor bottles, posters, brochures and securities of the TV and Ancient Egypt Clothing .

?

Each one of us owe thanks to Alex Steinweiss and his contributions to the album and the music. Can you imagine any work of art that comes with a vinyl record? I can not, and it is a great thing Alex Steinweiss could not either.

PST: Spain, Italy not impressive, but alive

source: Getty Images

Grading out Group C

The extent to which each team met expectations.

Spain, B?- The final record is impressive, but they were very close to being out of the tournament. And we?re not talking about some kind of Germany versus Denmark, ?if they somehow find a goal? kind of way. Croatia had a marvelous chance to go up 1-0, executed it well, and only a Iker Casillas save on an Ivan Rakitic header kept Spain from dropping to third place. They went on to get full points but only after Croatia changed gears. Still, they go through a difficult group in first place having accumulated a +5 goal difference. It?s hard to grade that too poorly.

Italy, B+ ? It wasn?t pretty, but with Italy, is it ever? They go through the group undefeated, showing the ability to beat anybody over 90 minutes. They also portray the ability to lose to anybody, something which may keep them from the semifinals.

Croatia, C+ ? They should have reasonably expected to get out of this group but couldn?t get a second goal against Italy. Croatia still played some great soccer, arguably better than many of the teams that will be in the final eight. However, as discussed yesterday, the best teams don?t always go through. The most deserving do.

Ireland, F ? Even by their modest expectations, this was a horrible tournament. Some respected voices picked them to get out of group, and with good reason. But they never got out of the driveway.

Crystal Ball: What Needs to Happen Next Round

The quarterfinal match ups look good for Spain. Though they recently loss to England, Spain featured mostly second-choice players at Wembley. The potential style conflict represents the same bargain Spain always faces: We?ll dominate play and push forward; you try to counter; we?ll see who wins. It?s almost always the Spanish.

Spain could also face France or Ukraine, depending on how Tuesday?s results shake out, but the bargain will be the same. Perhaps France and Ukraine won?t sit back quite as much as England, but who knows. With any matchup, Spain?s possession wil be north of 63 percent, and their opponents? best chances will come on set pieces and in transition.

For Italy, who are likely to face France, the quarterfinals may pose a significant match up problem. We saw what Croatia was able to do to the Italians in the second half when they used Luka Modric as an advanced playmaker. That created the same kind of flowing game Italy?s likely to see from the French. Having Daniele de Rossi in midfield to disrupt that flow could lead to improved results.

PST?s Euro 2012 ?More Powerful? Rankings

Taking a long term look, toward teams? title hopes.

1 (?). Germany
2 (?). Spain
3 (-). Portugal
4 (+1). France
5 (-1). Italy
6 (-). England
7 (-). Czech Republic
8. (NR). Greece

Italy?s lack of creativity against Spain and Croatia is one thing, but against Ireland it becomes disturbing. They drop below France but stay above England, though Wayne Rooney?s return could push the Three Lions above them.

? and PST?s Player of the Tournament Wunderlist

1. Andres Iniesta, Spain
2. Mario G?mez, Germany
3. Andrea Pirlo, Italy
4. Luka Modric, Croatia
5. Mesut Ozil, Germany
6. Xavi Hernandez, Spain
7. Daniele de Rossi, Italy
8. Alan Dzagoev, Russia
9. Fabio Coentr?o, Portugal
10. Sami Khedira, Germany

It almost seems unfair to put numbers besidesthese players. Better put: There are a number of players (not all listed here) who?ve had good tournaments, though nobody?s done enough to be considered a clear Player of the Tournament favorite.

Calif. gov. urges flammability standards changes

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) ? Gov. Jerry Brown is calling for changes to state flammability standards for upholstered furniture in an effort to reduce the use of what he says are toxic flame retardants.

Brown said in a statement on Monday that a growing body of evidence shows chemicals used as retardants harm human health and the environment.

He has asked state officials to update California's flammability guidelines to reflect modern manufacturing methods that can lower the use of harmful chemicals.

Brown says the revision process will include workshops and opportunity for public comment.

Supporters of the governor's move say in addition to harming human health, the retardants are ineffective at preventing fires.

Greta Van Susteren: What Women Will Stand Up to an Outrageous Insult to Former First Lady Laura Bush?

This (below) is outrageous.

22 women have written a letter to a museum protesting an award to Former First Lady Bush. The award, the Alice Award, is to honor a woman for advancing women. This year's recipient is the Former First Lady.

I can't decide if the 22 protesting women are ignorant or mean spirited -- or worse, both. (I would love to know what each of the 22 has done for women!)

One (Sonia Pressman Fuentes) is quoted below saying "I'm complaining that she's [Mrs. Bush] never done anything for women to get this award.."

Really? Not done anything for women? Fuentes and the other 21 are grossly uninformed (at best).

Let me give you a sample or two. (And my guess is that GMA's Robin Roberts and syndicated columnist Kathleen Parker will agree with me since they both were there covering one of the projects about which I write below. Like I did, Robin and Kathleen saw it... and I am sure both were impressed.)

When Mrs. Bush was First Lady, she went all over the Mideast (Robin and I chased her) talking about breast cancer awareness and the need for early screening. She did this in places where the cultures prohibit such discussion or even detection efforts. She spoke to women who got help way too late since their culture does not permit discussion. I don't need to tell you what their prognosis was. Mrs. Bush went to cancer facilities... spoke to roundtables of women. It was nonstop. The governments of those Mideast countries listened -- even though they probably were not happy with her message that women should be treated fairly. She went to countries and places and talked to leaders where woman can't get mammograms without the permission of husbands.

Mrs. Bush didn't have to go to the Middle East to put the spotlight on breast cancer. She got nothing out of going (and the days and hours were long and hot) except a personal satisfaction that she could help... and that personal satisfaction drives her... drives her to help other women. Women are very lucky that Mrs. Bush has a personal drive to want to help.

Frankly, she is not like the 22 women who took a pot shot at her. She likes to help. She is decent in that way. She was using her platform (and continues to do so) to help women who desperately need and needed help. She did it because she gives a damn.

But her tireless effort to help promote breast cancer awareness in the Mideast was not something new. She has been doing that for years -- long before she became First Lady. It is her history. For years, prior to the White House or even the Governor's Mansion in Austin, she was a regular volunteer helping the Komen Foundation in Dallas... yes, putting a spotlight on breast cancer awareness here in the U.S.

The trip to the Middle East is one small sample that shows who she is, her big heart, and what a good powerful woman can do.

But it isn't just breast cancer -- how about her campaign for literacy? Do you know how many of her literacy events she has held that I have covered over the years? Yes, of course illiteracy afflicts men, too; but it's particularly painful to the single mother who needs to find a job to feed her children. If you can't read, you can't fill out a job application. (I heard her say that over and over and over again at these literacy events!)

Or how about the women of Afghanistan? She has devoted much time and effort to help the women and she didn't drop it when she went back to Texas. She dug right in with a mission to continue to help them. A year ago she drafted me to moderate a panel at SMU with women from Afghanistan and other countries who mentor with businesswomen in the U.S. -- putting a spotlight on what successful women in this country can do to help women in other countries and most of all in Afghanistan where the Taliban has been brutal to women. The conference was the public side of her work for the women -- she does a lot of behind the scenes work to help the women hook up with business women in the U.S.

Want another one? Ready for more? Do you know who Aung San Suu Kyi is? I confess... I didn't until Mrs. Bush spoke out at the UN about her. She was under house arrest in Burma -- under a repressive regime. For the First Lady of the U.S. to be so bold to speak out against a repressive regime holding a woman was big.

This blog posting is not a Republican/Democratic issue. Breast cancer hits women of both parties. I know Democratic women with it and Republican women. Likewise... literacy is not a partisan issue. It is a human rights issue -- you can't get along in life if you can't even sign your name.

These are projects Mrs. Bush has been pushing for years.

The only partisan aspect to the article below are the 22 women who signed the letter and lack the decency to step back from their mean spirited partisanship and just look at the FACTS. Facts matter.

I could go on and on with what Mrs. Bush has done for women over the years and continues to do. But now I turn to the question: what has Fuentes been doing? Holding pot luck dinner with other women complaining about women of other political parties who actually DO help ?

Finally, I do challenge other women in politics and the media to do the right thing. Time to speak up! Write a letter to the museum board challenging the obscene letter written about Mrs. Bush. We want to encourage women to help women -- what these 22 women did is just the opposite, although I doubt anything could or would stop Mrs. Bush.

If you want women to help women, speak up now. Don't tolerate small minded partisans trying to discourage those who REALLY help. You would never let men do this to women... so why look the other way when the unfair critics are women?

The time to speak up is now.

Read below... and post your comment.

Not everyone is happy to see the Sewall-Belmont House, a museum dedicated to advancing women, give its highest honor to former first lady Laura Bush.

Twenty-two women, including former members of the museum's board, have penned a letter to the museum in protest of Bush's selection for the Alice Award, as first reported by the Washington Post. Sonia Pressman Fuentes, co-founder of the National Organization for Women, led the charge.

"When I read that the award was going to be given to Laura Bush, I felt as if I'd had a sudden onset of Alzheimer's," she told Yeas & Nays. "I couldn't believe my eyes."

Scots guardsmen cupcake toppers, union jacks on toothpicks, ice queen scoops. Bunting: enough to string together the old empire. Royal photos on thimbles, spoons, tea cups, shot glasses, egg cups, tea towels ? the usual tat, as the Brits say. Jubilee thongs? Yes.

Then there?s the cleverness contest surrounding the WWII-era slogan, ?Keep Calm and Carry On.? Written on a women's compact: ?Keep Calm and Powder On.?
Comparatively, Google?s doodle is an understated affair. The letter O?s are diamonds, symbolic of the 60th (diamond) anniversary on the throne. The E sits as a jewel in the queen?s crown. The queen appears in two-dimensional contour; her beloved corgis, however, look ready to leap off the page.

The playful riffs on royal themes reflect the generally favorable mood toward the royals of late.

A YouGov poll last month found 67 percent agreeing the monarchy is good for Britain, and 86 percent approve of Queen Elizabeth. This is up from the days when her children's divorces dominated the headlines and her slowness to show emotion over the death of Princess Diana frustrated many.

Still, the public mood is not really one of royal reverence. Britons are in party mode at the start of a long weekend ? Monday and Tuesday being holidays as part of the four-day official jubilee celebration. Many Londoners took the chance to flee on summer vacations, as foreign and British tourists crowd into the city for events that include Sunday?s royal family flotilla on the Thames and Tuesday?s carriage procession.

Among the street art for the crowds will be the construction Sunday of a 94-sq.-ft. portrait of Queen Elizabeth made from 3,120 squares of cake ? one for each week of her reign.

German-born baker Gerhard Jenne came up with the idea. Mr. Jenne dipped each piece of lemon cake into one of 24 frosting colors, turning each into a pixel of this icing illustration.

Jenne?s a fan of the queen, but not so much so that he feels the need to become her subject even 30 years after moving to London. He doesn?t expect to meet her on Sunday, when he publicly arranges the cake squares into the portrait.

?It?s very interesting how the queen has changed. Even from 30 years ago, [the royals] are much closer to the people now,? he says. ?You almost feel like she might come see you?. There could just be a 1 in 40 million chance.?

After spending hundreds of hours on the cake, he expects it to be gobbled up within 20 minutes when it?s opened up to the crowds.

Some customers in his Konditor & Cook bakeries have asked him if it?s proper for an image of Her Highness to be eaten.

?I just said yes, it?s fine by me. At the end of the day, it?s a cake, it?s a bit of fun. And she seems like a humorous person.?

An earlier version of this story incorrectly attributed the phrase "Keep calm and carry on" to the British royal family.
